Matthias Biedenkapp is Managing Director of Universal-Investment-Labs (UI labs), a leading IT service provider and software developer for front-office solutions in the financial industry. universal spotlight asked him, among other things, about the development of UI labs and future trends.

How has UI labs evolved in the last few years?

UI labs has become a leading IT service provider and software developer for front-office solutions, data management and regulatory reporting for the financial sector. Our clients value the combination of software and industry expertise. They also benefit from our flexibility, which allows us to merge the different data sources our clients have to work with.

Our approach saves valuable time and money in the implementation process as well as in maintenance and hosting compared with "in-house solutions”. It’s a future trend.

What makes your front-office solutions stand out from others?

What sets us apart is the way we tailor our partner SimCorp’s market-leading solutions to our clients’ needs and provide them in the form of Software as a Service – i.e. SaaS. This approach saves valuable time and money in the implementation process as well as in maintenance and hosting compared with "in-house solutions". It is a future trend. Through our platform, investors and asset managers are able to access the best solutions on the market - regardless of their size or whether they have one portfolio, a few funds or several hundred funds to manage.

Covid-19 has provided a boost for digitalisation. Can the same be said for UI labs?

We have long been one step ahead of the current trend. All our clients need on the user side is internet access, then they are ideally equipped to deal with any situations in which they may need remote access at short notice. Our clients were therefore able to simply use their usual investment processes from their home office or mobile workplace.

What are your predictions for the future?

SaaS and cloud solutions will continue to drive the market in the coming years. Data management and technical connections are becoming increasingly important, especially when it comes to additional market data for regulatory reporting for ESG, MiFIR and PRIIPs. Mobile usage is increasing – Covid-19 has also been a catalyst in this respect. We will therefore see growth particularly in the integration of front-office solutions into mobile devices. The importance of artificial intelligence and big data for analysis is also on the rise. This is another field where we can support our customers. So let the future come - we are ready.
