Press Release

Professional investors’ top 10 stock picks: Concentration declines significantly

Date:

06. August 2025

Frankfurt am Main

- U.S. equities remain dominant
- Professional investors are diversifying more
- Two German corporates among the top 10
While professional investors remain loyal to large, well-known U.S. corporates, the proportion of the top 10 stocks held in fund initiators’ portfolios declined from 9% to 7.86% of the total volume, compared to the allocation as of 31 December 2024. This is according to fund services provider Universal Investment, which has analysed public funds on its platform and their largest holdings for over a decade. At the end of June 2025, the value of stocks held in funds on Universal Investment’s platform totalled EUR 87 billion, compared to EUR 84.3 billion at the end of 2024.

Commenting on the data, Jochen Meyers, Group Head of Relationship Management at Universal Investment, explains: “Recent developments in the U.S. and their impact on the global economy are clearly leading investors to diversify more – though the performance of individual stocks also plays a major role. In addition, the U.S. dollar lost over 13% of its value during the first half of 2025. Consequently, the euro equivalent of unhedged investments in U.S. stocks has fallen."

Six of the ten largest stocks are U.S.-listed. Two German stocks, SAP and Munich Re, also feature in the top 10. While Berkshire Hathaway dropped out of the ranking compared to the end of 2024, Munich Re re-established itself.
Amazon and Alphabet, which each accounted for more than 1% of the total volume at the end of 2024 (1.13% and 1.07%, respectively), now stand at 0.83% and 0.86%. “Since professional investors are generally quite resilient, this is an interesting development. We are curious to see whether this trend continues,” Meyers says.
