Meanwhile, Markus Bannwart has been appointed to the management board of Universal-Investment-Gesellschaft mbH (UID), UI Group's German fund services platform

Client-focused development

Jean-Philippe Talmon will lead the company's transformation function, collaborating with teams across the organisation to ensure that client needs are firmly embedded in all changes and improvements to UI’s operating model and processes. He will report directly to Francesca McDonagh, CEO of Universal Investment Group.

Jean-Philippe Talmon was previously an Operating Partner at Montagu Private Equity. Prior to this, he held various management positions both at the Group and EMEA level at Capsugel (a portfolio company of KKR Private Equity). JP started his career at Nestle and subsequently worked at McKinsey & Company for eight years. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and completed an MBA at Wharton, University of Pennsylvania.

“I am delighted to welcome Jean-Philippe Talmon to the UI team as Chief Transformation Officer. He will play a key role in ensuring that we continue to deliver on our commitment as a trusted partner, supporting the success of our clients every day," said Francesca McDonagh.

Jean-Philippe Talmon commented, “I have been working closely with Universal Investment on its growth strategy since 2023, and I now look forward to shaping these in a dynamic market environment in my new role, always with a focus on delivering the greatest possible value for our clients.”

Strong growth in the Alternatives segment

Universal Investment has also appointed Markus Bannwart from its own ranks to the management board of its German fund services platform Universal-Investment-Gesellschaft mbH (UID), effective from 1 June. Markus Bannwart will continue in his role as Area Head of Alternative Investments & Structuring. He has been with Universal Investment for nearly ten years and brings more than 25 years of experience in the alternatives sector. Prior to joining Universal Investment, he worked for leading companies in the financial and property sectors.

Mathias Heiss, CEO of Universal Investment Germany, said, “We are very pleased to welcome Markus Bannwart to the German management team. In recent years, he has significantly expanded the Alternative Investments division. His appointment to the management board highlights the importance of this product area and the Group's expertise in complex, cross-border investment projects.”

“The volume of alternative investments has increased more than twelvefold since 2014, reaching around EUR 120 billion today. The full spectrum of alternative investments has become increasingly important for our institutional clients. In my view, the growth potential is far from exhausted, and I look forward to further developing this area as part of the German management team,” said Markus Bannwart upon his appointment.

UI Group continues to grow

The expansion of the management team is also a key component of Universal Investment Group's successful growth strategy. By the end of April, marking the midpoint of the financial year, the company was administrating a total of EUR 1.168 trillion, representing an increase of around EUR 120 billion within a year. In the German market, the company ranked first in the 2024 calendar year, with net inflows of around EUR 40 billion. Universal Investment has repeatedly been recognised as the largest third-party ManCo and the largest AIFM in Luxembourg, and has also established a strong and growing presence in Ireland.
