Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf (SSKD) systematically develops tailored investment solutions to meet its clients’ specific needs. The number of complex offerings - and new technical hurdles - are subsequently also growing in the bank’s own Asset Management. This is a typical situation for asset managers, fund initiators and institutional investors whose structures have evolved over time. Today’s challenge is in harmonising processes and data management. For a growing business like SSKD, integration, standardisation, and in particular the creation of interfaces, for example to third-party systems, are key criteria for success. UI labs was brought on board in 2019 to overcome these challenges.
SSKD needed a standardised, end-to-end front-office solution for portfolio management that included compliance tools and order routing. UI labs therefore adapted SimCorp Dimension®, the world's leading portfolio management suite, to meet SSKD’s requirements. The interface enables SSKD to connect to different KVGs, custodians and data providers. "Our entire investment process is now highly automated and efficient due to the seamless integration of external partners," explains Thorsten Gertkämper, Deputy Director and Head of Capital Markets at SSKD. An extensive reporting platform is also integrated into the front office solution. Reporting and output formats can thus be tailored to clients’ needs and all regulatory requirements, including risk management, can be met.

With user requirements in mind, a data warehousing solution harmonises both heterogeneous and fragmented data, thereby providing a new global perspective for ad-hoc reports and analyses. These key measures can be complemented with further modules such as reporting solutions, customised fact sheets and dashboards to ensure a rapid overview of key fund data.
"The complexity of asset management has increased with the growing number of investments and regulatory requirements. With the help of UI labs’ front office solution, our investment process is ideally mapped: from order generation and compliance to the direct connection to trading platforms," says Roland Kirchhoff, Portfolio Manager at SSKD. As a result, the portfolio management team can concentrate on their core business.
Clients receive a front office solution in the form of Software as a Service (SaaS) from UI labs. UI labs takes over the hosting of the entire infrastructure and the applications using the highest security standards. Companies can thus reduce their implementation costs and in the process achieve a high level of cost efficiency and a strong perspective for the future. This is because the front office solution eliminates the need for companies to invest in setting up and maintaining hosting solutions, while the constant development of the software components is managed centrally by UI labs.
We are observing a growing demand for solutions from highly specialised partners such as UI labs that are supplemented by dedicated services and then made available as a SaaS / cloud solution for users with a deep industry expertise.Dr. Ralf Schmücker ,
Senior Vice President, SimCorp
SimCorp, a leading provider of portfolio management software, believes that this approach is the trend for the future: “We are observing a growing demand for solutions from highly specialised partners such as UI labs that are supplemented by dedicated services and then made available as a SaaS / cloud solution for users with a deep industry expertise. A key aspect is quality assurance for updates and customisations, which we are able to provide through our well-established partnerships," comments Dr Ralf Schmücker of SimCorp.
With its cutting-edge front-end solution FlowSuite, which includes a choice of modules, Universal-Investment has once again expanded its service range for fund initiators and institutional investors in terms of front-to-back service requirements. Both client groups gain efficient access to a high-performance front-office system for the management of funds or direct investments. For Katja Müller, Chief Customer Officer (CCO) of Universal-Investment, the acquisition of UI labs in 2019 was an important acquisition on behalf of its clients: "We are granting them access to flexible and scalable investment management software while eliminating the need to set up their own IT infrastructure. With the help of a tailored SaaS solution from UI labs, our clients can focus entirely on their core business. This fits with Universal-Investment's 360-degree approach, which is not just about efficient solutions for the here and now. Above all, it is about providing investors and fund initiators with reliable perspectives for the future."
